Bulls-Eyes, also known as Caramel Creams, were created by Goetze's Candy Company, which was founded in 1895 and originally known as the Baltimore Chewing Gum Company. Located in Baltimore, Maryland, the company expanded to a larger facility on Monument Street in the early 1900s and began to make chewy caramels around that time, including Bulls-Eyes, or Caramel Creams, which debuted all the way back in 1918. Interestingly, the original recipe that Goetze used to make the flavored cream in the center of each caramel is still in use today! (For those who may be curious, the caramel portion of the candies is reportedly made using a secret recipe that includes wheat for a chewy rather than sticky texture.) Goetze completely switched over from making chewing gum to making only caramel candies sometime in the 1940s and has continued to make caramel candies ever since. Today, the company continues to manufacture their popular Bulls-Eyes, or Caramel Creams, as well as their other flagship candy line, Cow Tales, in their Baltimore facility. And while they can sometimes be hard to find in stores, Bulls-Eyes still have lots of fans today!
